Stakhovsky: Tsitsipas beat Roger Federer, but I did it at Wimbledon

Sergiy Stakhovsky had quite an interesting interview with RMC Sport. The Ukrainian player lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Marseille Open quarter-finals. A journalist reminded Stakhovsky that Tsitsipas had defeated Roger Federer in the 2019 Australian Open quarter-final. Replying, Stakhovsky joked: “But I did it at Wimbledon…” The Ukrainian defeated Federer in the second round of the 2013 Wimbledon. Federer was the defending champion that year at the Championships. Andy Murray went on to win his first Wimbledon (and first Major title) that year defeating Novak Djokovic in the final in straight sets. Moving beyond his results, in a letter, Stakhovsky had criticized the ITF regarding the new changes it has instituted. “We all agree that ITF is not fulfilling their mandate of overseeing and promoting tennis worldwide. We all understand that ITF (even if they will) will take a very long time to address this situation (hopefully, I am wrong).  ‘Yes it would be the best solution if ATP would take over that segment and lead the way (believe me they can), but the problem here is all the moving variables of the current situation and some other global problems with which ATP is dealing with. On top just from the top of my head if ATP will take that step we are talking about serious financial and manpower investment (I am not worried about the money, but the employees might be a bit of an issue).  What I can promise all of you that this situation is addressed, it is discussed by the ATP council. I will have more info after board and council meeting in Indian Wells two weeks from now.”
