Manchester City stormed to the quarter-final stages of the Champions League with a resounding 7-0 victory over Schalke at the Etihad.

The Blues were clinical against the Bundesliga outfit with Sergio Aguero (twice), Leroy Sané, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus all on target to hand City a 10-2 aggregate victory.

Pep Guardiola had warned against complacency and his side fulfilled his wish with a dominating display. The City boss was hamstrung by injuries and suspensions that depleted his defensive options, but Schalke barely had a sniff on goal in a performance that had City fans reminiscing about the 9-0 thrashing of Burton earlier this season.

City go into Friday’s draw for the last eight of the competition along with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax, Porto, Juventus and either Liverpool or Bayern Munich and Lyon on Barcelona.
